My love for collecting art explained

I have been collecting art for many years now and during that time a lot of people have asked me why I do it. I always tell them that I do it because I love it. Of course this just raises the question of why do I love to collect art. This is a little bit harder to explain but having put some thought into it recently this is the best that I can come up with.

ceramic art The main reason that I love collecting art is that I really enjoy having the art around me. This one is a little bit hard to explain there is something very emotional about art. Every day millions of people are visiting museums or galleries to look at pieces of art. Trying to explain why they do it is not easy. There is just this very deep emotional feeling when you are looking at art. Being able to own it and have it on the walls of your house to look at any time that you want to is even better. I mean, The Louvre is awesome. But once you're out. You're out. My living room is awesome too. And it's mine!

The other big reason that I love collecting art is that there is always that thrill of discovery. Finding a piece that was done by an artist that you love is always exciting, even more so if you were looking for a specific painting. It can also be pretty exciting to find an artist that you had never heard of before. I love finding something new and that is a big part of what keeps me collecting art, there is always something new to find, you just have to keep looking for it.

One of the things that I love about collecting art that really kind of surprised me is that I really love learning about art. Whenever I find a piece that I like I usually go out and try to find out everything that I can about. I want to know about the piece, its history, the style and technique that was used to paint it. I also want to find out all I can about the artist. As I do the research on a specific painting I usually find a whole bunch of information on other works by that artist and similar artists. This then sets me off looking for those works as well.

Another reason that I really love collecting art is that I have gotten to meet a lot of other people with similar interests; many of them have become good friends. When you go to galleries or art shows you tend to see the same people there most of the time, these are artists, gallery owners and other collectors. Since we all have a common interest it is natural that friendships would develop and they have. For example, MI-based Park West Galleries has amazing ceramic collections, and I've met so many people there who love both ceramics and art. That's a small circle! The art world has some truly fascinating people and getting the chance to meet them and become friends has been a great experience.
